CB schools contemplate mid-year budget cuts

COOS BAY — The faltering economy is forcing Oregon schools to cut their budgets midstream this year. Local school officials say it’s only going to get worse next year.

Coos Bay schools expect to lose $400,000 in revenue this year, after Gov. Ted Kulongoski ordered across-the-board cuts of 1.2 percent last month.

Police find no fault in bus-pickup collision

Police have found no one was at fault in the mid-November school bus accident that sent a pickup truck crashing into the downtown fire hall in Coos Bay.

Police Capt. Gary McCullough said officers couldn’t determine who was to blame after listening to eyewitness reports. Witnesses didn’t agree about which vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Fourth Street and Anderson Avenue.
